Heartland Insurance & Investment will today award Aimee Watkins, New Plymouth’s New Zealand White Fern cricket captain, their premier AMP Regional Scholarship of $5000. Heartland Insurance and Investment spokesperson, Kim Roberts, sings Aimee’s praises.
“Aimee is passionate about cricket and leading the New Zealand team to world cup glory. She’s played for her country since 2001 and captained two world cup matches in the last twelve months. Aimee’s so committed to the game, she’s resigned from her teaching job and committed to coaching and mentoring young players alongside her training.
“We hope to see Aimee achieve her goal of top performances at future world cups by New Zealand cricket teams and a steadily growing pool of new cricket talent. Aimee has the determination, skill and commitment to strengthen New Zealand cricketers to be the top line performers she dreams of them being, “ Ms Roberts said.
“This is the third year Heartland Insurance and Investment has been involved in the AMP Regional Scholarship programme and we’ve really enjoyed the process. It’s another way for us to support our local community in addition to the community fundraisers we’ve supported over the years.”
Ms Roberts also acknowledged the quality of applications received for the AMP Regional Scholarship award.
“The quality of the applications from the region was superb. Each was a great example of the inspiring people and the depth of our local talent, ” she said.
Heartland Insurance & Investment also awarded three additional $1000 AMP Regional Scholarships. The recipients were three world-class sportspeople, Grace Campbell, world-class BMX rider, Kate Ellen Broadmore, world-class cricketer and Priyesh Bhana, world-class hockey player.
